INFORMATION

Nathaniel is one of the Three Mists, firstborn offspring of AZATHOTH representing fundamental, universal aspects of reality. They exist beyond space, time, and Creation as a whole- but are responsible for maintaining it in their Mother's image and following her fitful whims. He, the younger of his siblings, embodies primordial Chaos.His mind is the engine which fuels change; the dance of destruction and renewal. Without him, all things would stagnate, and life could not exist. He is also directly responsible for the appearance of conscious thought in the first intelligent life forms, and is known to have a hand in enlightenment and ascension of lesser beings into deities throughout history.Amongst his kin, the Outer Gods, he plays the most active role in the lives of mortals. He appears as a Muse or Emissary, spreading the gospel of his people, directing cult activity, and leading wayward souls down self-destructive paths for his charges' entertainment. His methods have earned him a reputation as the most "human" of his kind, but his true motivations remain complex and unknowable.His role as a messenger has allowed him the freedom to travel between planes freely and mostly unhindered, at the cost of much of his original power and the binding of his True Body. His birthright is to facilitate the End Times, become whole again, and consume his siblings to usurp AZATHOTH... but he is in no rush to do that, honestly.

He's an outer god, he cannot really be conventionally 'defeated'- his entire gimmick is existing beyond any one verse's status quo. I am totally not opposed to him getting humbled, but I prefer things like this to be a collaborative effort to avoid misunderstandings.I primarily use literate/novella style and tend to write... a lot... so I can be somewhat selective. I may drop threads that aren't returning my level of effort. ROLEPLAY HOOKSHands-down one of my favorite things about this muse is his versatility.He is outerversal, so boundaries between verses are no problem! He also has many fun avatars/forms to explore! He can stay the same, or change depending on the setting. I am open to discussion.Need an antagonist? He's great for anything from petty meddling to grand schemes! Contrary to popular belief, his machinations are not impossible to subvert-- it simply requires more strategy than direct combat.He also works as a "deuteragonist" or benefactor! He is particularly drawn to individuals who are ambitious and in some ways selfish, or those who disrupt the status quo... pure intent or otherwise. Really, his interest can be fickle, but he is willing to "help" good characters if it brings more amusement for him in the long run. Potential consequences of accepting this help are negotiable.He is known to offer boons, particularly in the realms of "forbidden" knowledge, though these tend to come with steep costs. In his human guise, he is an eminent academic that many learned individuals seek out for guidance, occult or otherwise.He can be summoned! He is actively searching for copies of the Necronomicon, to bring all eldritch secrets back under his personal control. Anyone with knowledge of a copy's whereabouts can be rewarded handsomely... or tortured brutally.He is, for all intents and purposes, an upper echelon "manager" of the Lovecraftian cults and their artifacts, so there's lots of potential for interaction for anyone connected to the pantheon, or other known eldritch entities! The version he hails from has its own distinct lore, which I am happy to bring anyone up to speed on if they want to include their muses/OCs! Otherwise, they will be treated as completely separate- be warned, he loves doting on even his descendants' alternates. ( He is chronically lonely. )Similarly, I have a LOT of (non-canon) self-indulgent HCs regarding relationships with entities from other verses. You certainly don't have to buy in if you are choosing to play them, but if you are interested, I'm happy to share!

Mechanics

In physical interactions with its mortal guise, passive effects are minimal. Those who are heavily psychically attuned will sense something vaguely off.In dreams and visions, passive effects amplify regardless of presentation, though may become more intense with distortions of form or novel somata.Prolonged exposure to a novel soma is likely to cause severe psychological distress. A "novel soma" is defined as a system of morphological attributes that are perceived as cryptic or "otherworldly" by the observer.Most passive effects ultimately result in psychosis, which presents with great variation.Only Outer Gods possess full immunity, though other beings may be resistant to varying degrees.
